10 Kate B.V. is the manufacturer of the product carticol®, a dietary supplement used to support joint function and bone health. Carticol® contains the undenatured collagen type 2 (T2NDC) as the most important component.
Why is there a study about carticol®?
In this study we would like to officially prove that carticol® relieves joint pain. Furthermore, it should be determined how carticol® increases the functional status of the joint.
Who are we looking for?
People older than 30 years who suffer from osteoarthritis of the knee.
What’s your advantage?
You make a valuable contribution to research into treatment methods for knee osteoarthritis and receive 12 monthly carticol® packs after you have participated in the study.
How is the course of study?
There are three different recipes:
1) carticol® (original recipe)
2) Non-denatured collagen type 2
Take 2 capsules of our product once a day over a period of 16 weeks. You do not know whether you are taking recipe 1, 2 or 3. Every 4 weeks you will receive a questionnaire, which you can easily fill out on your smartphone. Your personal data will only be sent to the independent CRO (Clinical Research Organization). We, 10Kate B.V. don’t know who you are. This is and will remain a secret.

Scientific background information on T2NDC?
Osteoarthritis (OA) is one of the most common joint diseases. Degenerative changes are observed in both articular cartilage and subchondral bone.
In cartilage, the imbalance between synthesis and breakdown leads to cartilage destruction. Much research has focused on the underlying mechanisms of cartilage destruction, and therefore numerous pharmaceutical and nutraceutical agents have been developed to retard the progression of structural changes in cartilage.
The main structural component of cartilage tissue is type 2 collagen. Degradation products of this protein in the urine correlate with the progression of joint damage in osteoarthritis. Undenatured / Native Type II Collagen (T2NDC) is a nutraceutical ingredient extracted from the sternum cartilage of chickens.
Orally ingested T2NDC antigens interact with Peyer’s plaques in the intestinal-associated lymphoid tissue, which leads to the T-cell attack on the structural protein collagen type 2 in cartilage being switched off.
This desensitization process in Peyer’s plaques, also known as oral tolerance, prevents the immune system from recognizing endogenous type 2 collagen in cartilage as an antigen. Given this mechanism of action, T2NDC may have beneficial effects on inflammation and degradation in joint disease. Previous studies have shown that T2NDC has beneficial effects in the treatment of osteoarthritis.
Some studies have evaluated the effectiveness of T2NDC in osteoarthritis. It has been found in studies to be effective at relieving joint pain. In human studies, T2NDC has been found to increase functional status and relieve pain. In addition to the symptomatic effects, one study (Scarpellini et al.) Showed a reduction in urinary C-terminal telopeptide levels of type 2 collagen (CTX-2), which is related to cartilage degeneration in osteoarthritis.
You cannot participate if one of the following points applies (exclusion criteria):
- You have rheumatoid arthritis
- You are allergic to one of the ingredients: methylsulfonylmethane, ascorbic acid, capsule shell (coating agent hydroxypropylmethylcellulose, thickener gellan), collagen (from poultry), vitamin E (D-alpha-tocopheryl acetate, carrier silicon dioxide), hyaluronic acid, manganese bisglycinate, cholecalcifer, Release agents magnesium stearate, maltodextrin, gelatin
- You are pregnant or breast-feeding your baby
- You participated in another study in the last 3 months
